5-Axis CMM Scan Paths
Technique: Gasket Scan
GASKET SCAN is a 5-axis CMM tactile scanning technique. It works under a full 5-axis motion control to follow any complex path during scanning operations. By defining target points along a path a blended path is created that captures a large data set while minimizing CMM motion.

The complex geometry around features such as the head gasket, will have edges or CAD curves that define the combination of shapes and blends. This can be one-click selected as a CAD chain, then instantly set to be the “drive curve” for the Gasket Scan CMM path. The scan drives the CMM’s carriage along a straight line and speed, leaving the 5-axis head to perform the 2 rotations that trace the curve. The result is higher scanning speeds with greater accuracy.
